Armed revolution by Subhas Bose(contd-10)- Meeting with Hitler

Bose left India in January 1941 and reached Berlin in 3rd April 1941. He met Ernst Woermann (left), under secretary of State for Political Affairs, at the Foreign office. Dr. Adam Von Trott (pic-2) and Dr. Alexander Werth of the Information Dept. were deputed to look after him. Subhas stayed in Germany from 3rd April 1941 to 8 February , 1941 i.e, 22 months.During this period Berlin was the Head quarter of Bose. He formed an Indian Liberation Army and an Indian Radio Station in Germany.
The Japanese occupation of Singapore on February 15, 1942, provided the opportunity to Bose to come out openlyto address the people of India on 19 February, 1942. his address became the source of inspiration to the Indian people as well as to the soldiers of INA in the eastern front. the British Govt. by this time sent Sir Stafford Cripps for carrying out negotiations with Indian leaders which yielded no result.

The Cripps Mission came to India in March 1942 after the fall of Singapore in Feb 1942, fell flat after meeting the leaders of India. The failure of Cripps Missuon (  Sir Richard Stafford Cripps CH FRS was a British Labour politician of the first half of the 20th century came to India in March 1942)
[ stafford Cripps with Gandhi] was believed in Germany due mainly to netaji's Broadcasts. as a result his prestige was considerably in Berlin.  It was at this point Hitler agreed to meet Bose and to explain to Netaji in simple words that his further stay in Germany would be a waste of time because Germany did not hope to reach India's border , "before a year or two". He wanted to advise Bose that it would be better for him to go the East to obtain Japan's assistance.
The historic interview took place on 29th May 1942 at the Reich's Chancellary the presence of foreign Minister Herr Von Ribbentrop, Secretary State of Keppler and ambassador Hewal. Dr. Paul Schmidt , Hitler's official interpreter, acted as the interpreter. The meeting with Hitler marked the burning point in Bose's stay in Germany. The interview was preserved in German Govt. archives.
Hitler looked at the Indian problem through English eyes though he was envious with British greatly still his disliking could not efface his racial judgement . In 1933 he did not even meet him where as Italian Govt. offered him hospitality under very favourable conditions and mussolini assured him of any help they could render in the freedom struggle of India.
Bose , after a trip to Rome and Vienna returned to Berlin on 14th July 1941and became glad to find that a well organised office had been set up by his German colleagues. at first he met in august with the secretary of State of foreign affairs , Mr. Kepler and later with German Foreign Minister, Herr Von Ribbentrop, who favourably sanctioned the necessary funds for the Free India Centre and fixed a date for his interview on 29 Nov 1941. He expressed his desire to Von Ribbentrop to request Hitler

On the objectionable words about India published in Mein  Kamp, Werth was said that Hitler bluntly refused to  discuss the question with Netaji. But one of the Netaji's most trusted Indian colleagues Mr.M.R. Vyas stated, "In reply to Netaji drawing his attention to the ugly remarks about India in Mein Kamp , he immediately expressed his regrets , saying that these were based on earlier mis-conceptions . He agreed to delete the relavant remarks from all furure editions and dictated notes to this effect for appropriate action by his publishers. "
