Subhas chandra (1937-38) - contd-1


Subhas spent some time at Dalhousie in the autumn of 1937. He is seen in the  picture with his hosts Dr. and Mrs Dharambir
Subhas had to further regain his health and was told that he needed a cool and dry climate for some time. He had a standing invitation to stay with old friends , the Dharamvirs, whom he had kept in touch with since his student days in England and who had a house in Dalhousie, a north Indian hill station.. Once there in May 1937, he wrote  to Mrs. Vetter describing his past few months and present prospects. He said, in part,


Subhas played a part in the affairs of Dharambirs at this time.He felt quite like an older brother or young uncle to Mrs. Dharambir's two daughters particularly Sita. She had trained to be doctor and had fallen in love with another young Indian Doctor , Santosh Sen. whom Bose had known well in Vienna.In getting her parents approval of this love match Subhas played the role of intermediary, and some months later wrote most persuasively to her parents telling them that in his opinion the marriage was a wise one and a desirable one.
He felt most at home with the Dharmbirs and rested, read, wrote, and reflected during these five months.Subhas used to get regularly the news papers, periodicals, books 'Modern Review'. He described in the book that Imperialism is an outgrowth of Capitalism..
Part of his regimen in Dalhousie , as probably at other times in his mature life , he included what he called , 'self analysis', 'self assertion,' and 'self surrender'. He described this in details to a friend in letter dated August 8,
in another note he wrote, 
Subhas wrote to Dilip Roy,
In mid 1930s Subhas wrote two essays, 'Japan's Role in the Far east', an 'Europe; Today and tomorrow' which were published in Modern Review. His sympathies were with Chinese and at the end of the essay ,he wrote,

 The sympathies he had with the Chinese in the late 1930s was shred by Nehru and others in the Congress.
Turning to the matters of Calcutta Corporation , he wrote to Santosh Kumar  Basu, said,
In the same week a letter from Subhas Bose was published in the Caalcutta Municipal Gezette in which he said,
