Subhas Chandra (1937-38)

When the Lloyd Triestino docked in Bombay on April 8, 1936, Subhas Bose was immediately arrested, and faced another indefinite term of imprisonment.The protest had started even before he had returned, for he himself had written to the British and Indian press attacking the cautionfrom the British consul and had sent copies of the warning far nad wide. Nehru and the Congress , many Indian papers and British Politicians and papers as well, condemned the summary re-arrest and incarceration of Bose.At first he was detained in Bombay and then in Yeravda prison , near Poona in Maharashtra. After rumours circulated that he was shortly to be taken to some prison at a hill station , he was moved by the Govt. to Sarat Bose's house in Kurseong in May 1936. At first Subhas was benifitted from the cooler climate and the relatively freer atmosphere and he was delighted with company his nephews Amiya and Sisir.
During this period Subhas was having regular correspondence with Emilie Shenkl in their personal matters and no politics due to sensors from Aug 1936 to Oct 1937. The Govt of India act 1935 was to take effect in the Spring of 1937 and elections were to  be held in the cold season of 1936-37.
Initially Subhas was well in Kurseong but at the fall of 1936, the health began to deteriorate again his weight began to fall . He was admitted to Calcutta Medicval College Hospital for further investigation. He wrote to his friend Mrs.Vetter
In Calcutta talks were going on between the Govt. of Bengal and Govt of India and exchanged notes;
Bose was freed on March 17, 1937.
Shortly after thgd January election , Governor Anderson wrote to Viceroy, Lord Linlithgo, on the results and the possibility of forming a ministry. he noted;
All Bengal Subhas Day was held on April 6, and a huge gathered at Shraddhananda Park to greet him at his first public meeting in India after more than five years, 
He said he had to discuss plans with Gandhi and Nehru.
Some of the warm wishes for him upon his return took a concrete form he wanted the Congress in Bengal should have an Office.It was slow getting off the ground and  a fund was collected and a year later a plot of land was leased from th Calcutta Corporation for a nominal fee. Some time later , the corner stone of Mahajati Sadan was laid and Rabindranath Tagore nearing eighty , came to celebrate its founding.
Subhas Chandra Bose made a request to Rabindranath Tagore to create an auditorium and in response to the request of Bose, Tagore laid the foundation stone of Mahajati Sadan 19 August 1939. At the foundation-laying ceremony of Mahajati Sadan, Tagore told in his speech.
